Technology transfer
MBARI is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific and technical information for public benefit. MBARI researchers are expected to publish the results of their research. They use a variety of methods to transfer MBARI developments to the oceanographic community. For example the AUV tailcone design, the In Situ Ultraviolet Spectrophotometer, and Land/Ocean Biogeochemistry Observatory have been licensed for manufacture and distribution by commercial partners. The Plug and Work Discussion Group is helping to build community consensus on plug-and-work instruments for ocean observatories. MBARI's Video Annotation and Reference System is being distributed for research use as open source software.
