This spectrum shows two different kinds of proteorhodopsin proteins
 identified in the study.
 One proteorhodopsin absorbs in the green range of light; 
the other absorbs in the 
blue range of light.

Sample of oceanic bacteria as seen using epifluorescence microscopy. 
Ribosomal RNA probes developed by DeLong's research lab are used 
to identify the SAR86 bacterial group in seawater samples 
(SAR86 bacteria glow red with the rRNA probe).
