THE 1997-98 EL NIŅO ATLAS
OF OCEANOGRAPHIC CONDITIONS ALONG THE WEST COAST OF NORTH AMERICA
Hydrographic Data
The hydrographic data is
organized by section (see Table 2). There
are two different data files for each section: CTD and BOTTLE, with the
exception of CalCOFI Lines 80 and 90 where there is only one file with all the
data. The files are named as "LineXXX_yyyymm.csv". The format
for these data is comma delimited ASCII.
The CTD data file
contains all the CTD data for all the stations of a particular transect from
sea surface to 1000 m or to the bottom for the coastal stations. The fields are
temperature, salinity, and density anomaly which was computed using the 1980
Equation of State (Fofonoff, 1985). CTD file format
The BOTTLE
data file contains
the nutrient and chlorophyll data of the water samples collected at each
station of a given transect. Nutrient samples were
collected as follows: sea surface to 150 m at CalCOFI Line 120, COC Line, CR
Line and NH Line; sea surface to 500 m for CalCOFI Lines 80 and 90; sea surface
to 400 m for Line P; sea surface to 1000 m at CalCOFI Line 67 for five of the
10 cruises; sea surface to 200 m for the remainder of the data set. Chlorophyll
samples were collected from sea surface to 100 or 200 m. Bottle
