top:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Notes from the April 25 NASA telecon ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

MBARI will establish a website for the project. Reiko will manage the website Initially the website will require posting by Reiko. There is a need to establish a separate server to allow project members to upload materials. That server is being configured and will come on line later. We are currently populating the website and Reiko will let everyone know when it is online.

MBARI will also create a mailing list using the project acronym:

FAST (Forecasting Anchovy and Sardine Transitions) – fast@mbari.org

Please send Reiko list of those who want on the mailing list.

Monique to generate sections for 5, 10, 12 and 15 S. JPL/Maine please provide approximate depths for each model layer.

JPL and University of Maine will work together to establish physical criteria for comparisons: upwelling (w) – perhaps separated into coastal upwelling and upwelling driven by curl of the wind stress, mixed layer depth, thermocline depth (14 C isotherm?) and present these at the next meeting.

Current plan is to use COADS for 50 year run and Quikscat for more recent and higher resolution forcing. JPL to generate COADS-like fields from Quikscat for recent years.

Comparison of measured and modeled sea level suggests that model does a reasonable job at capturing seasonal, interannual and decadal variability.

Suggest we do this for two other regions: California and Japan. Reminder that NASA asked that we include US stock assessment folks; have invited Kevin Hill and Alec McCall to join team and will invite to join telecoms shortly (an aside-Yi you mentioned that you could possibly set up toll free phone access). We/MBARI will create similar products for these two other regions. JPL/Duke can you look at sea level to see how these regions compare? We also need to think about how to bring the Peruvian stock assessment folks into the discussion; my guess is that admiral Soldi will personally want to participate. How many of you have macs with cameras? We used ichat for a recent telecon and it worked well. I plan to give one to the Peruvians.

Dates for the next telecoms May 10 and 31.
