October 29, 2001: Day #23

FS2 Chapel Dodson prepares midnight rations, or 'midrats.'

Mike Pinto writes: Not much to report today. The weather continues to foil any AUV operations. Earlier in the day we steamed south to begin a new 8 station CTD transect. The Healy should be arriving at the first station around in about an hour. Armen and Doug continue to evaluate the buoy-heating problem by careful disassembly of the unit that failed to burn through the ice. The MBARI team continued to review data from earlier AUV runs and work on the navigation systems that need attention.

The glow of a full moon is a welcome sight after weeks without the sun.
