July 16: Precruise

You can see the coring sled in back of the truck at the dock with the Western Flyer. Thomas Chapin is in the blue shirt strolling over to the Western Flyer.

Sunday, July 16, 2000: Thomas and Greg left MBARI at 12 noon for the drive to Newport, OR. In the truck was the ever-so-important rock coring sled, as well as the rest of the equipment and gear needed for the cruise: computers, monitors, a stereo system, a microwave oven (for melting the wax from the wax corers), and all our personal gear. The drive went smoothly, and they arrived in Eugene, Oregon at 11 pm and turned in for the night. The Western Flyer arrived at port today in Newport, returning from the "Hydrate Ridge" cruise.
