June 19: Coringsled Testing

Log Entry: Today the Western Flyer was scheduled to sail to Davidson Seamount in order to do the first underwater tests of the Multiple-barrel Rock Coring Sled. As often happens with research projects, we experienced some technical difficulties with the sled during "dry run" tests done on shore. One minor problem with the (gate) was overcome, but when the sled was attached to the ROV Tiburon, it experienced a ground-fault short which shorted the electrical systems on Tiburon. Instead of being out on the water, the crew spent the day repairing the problem. Hopefully we'll be ready to steam out tomorrow!
