Debra Stakes writes: This is the last update of the cruise and it needs to make the 8 am email. Dive 475 was a brief examination of zones of high reflectivity on the western (back) side of the front accretionary wedge. We had hoped the zones would be evidence of extensive carbonate deposition. What we observed were thin layers that might be authigenic carbonate (Fig 1), tilted sedimentary layers (Fig 2) and almost vertical layers near the summit coated with microbial mat (Fig. 3).

The precarious nature of the vertical exposures precludes this from being a Keck instrumentation site.
